We fell in love with the location of our property based on the description and photos on the real estate listing. How could we not? National Forest in the back yard, an amazing cliff to stare at all day, lush trees...Unfortunately, when we got there, we found out the photos were 20 years old, and many of those lush trees were dead and dying! But, as they say: love is blind, so on we went.

Greg Haas and the crew of Twisted Tree Fire & Forestry made our lot far safer in case of fire, and also helped make our dream come true. They cut down dead trees to remove fuel, which opened up amazing views. Hidden enclaves of aspens are now flourishing with more water and sunlight, some doubling their height in 3 years. They accommodated our request to avoid damage to the meadow by using small carts and manpower instead of tracked vehicles or log skidders. (That wasn't cheap, but we don't have to wait for the meadow to heal!)

To add to it all, Twisted Tree built a trail we designed to the top of a ridge on our property. Now we have a porch swing in a hillside meadow and a picnic table up high, both with awe-inspiring views of the Madison Valley.

Greg explained to us what to expect in case of fire in the valley below us or in the forest above us. His expertise and knowledge of forest plants and fire fighting is astounding! His ability to look at an environment and just “know” how fire would travel through it is impressive, and his willingness to educate us on best practices was welcome.
